Soft glam sits between a no-makeup look and full glam. It is polished and deliberate, but it does not look like you are about to be photographed on a red carpet. It is also the most useful look to learn first, because it works for work, dates, dinners, and photos.
You need fewer products than you think. Here are the six that do the work.
1. A hydrating concealer
Soft glam skips heavy full-face foundation in favour of targeted coverage. A good concealer handles under-eye shadows, redness around the nose, and any blemishes, while leaving the rest of your skin looking like skin. Apply only where you need it and blend the edges out completely.
2. A blurring setting powder
This is what makes the difference between soft glam and just wearing concealer. A finely milled powder over the T-zone and under-eyes blurs pores and stops everything sliding, without flattening the whole face. Set only where you move and shine.
3. A nose contour
Contour in soft glam should be barely perceptible. The nose is the highest-impact place to put it because it defines the centre of the face. Use a light hand, blend upward, and stop before it looks like a stripe. If you can see where it starts and ends, it is too much.
4. A liquid highlighter
The signature of soft glam is glow, and liquid formulas look far more like real skin than powder ones. Tap it onto the tops of the cheekbones, the brow bone, and the inner corners of the eyes. A pearlescent finish flatters more skin tones than a strongly gold or strongly silver one.
Layer it under your base for a subtle lit-from-within effect, or over the top for a more visible glow.
5. A shimmer eyeshadow
Soft glam eyes are simple: one wash of shimmer across the lid, blended slightly above the crease. A liquid shimmer shadow does this in one swipe and skips the blending stage entirely, which is why it is the most beginner-friendly option. Champagne, soft bronze, and rose tones all work universally.
6. A tinted lip gloss with liner
Finish with a defined but soft lip. Line first to give shape, fill in lightly, then gloss over the top. Skipping the liner is why lip looks read as unfinished; skipping the gloss is why they read as harsh. A 2-in-1 product handles both without you needing to buy two.

- Concealer where needed, blended out
- Set T-zone and under-eyes only
- Nose contour, blended upward, light hand
- Shimmer shadow, one swipe across the lid
- Liquid highlighter on cheekbones and inner corners
- Line and gloss the lips
Total time once you are used to it: about eight minutes.
A note on shades
If you are unsure which shade to pick in anything, go one step softer than you think. Soft glam is forgiving of underdoing it and unforgiving of overdoing it. You can always build.
